About Bullseye Pistol:

Bullseye, or conventional pistol, shooting had its origins back a long time ago, but its modern development seem to have occurred in 1891 when the U.S. Army decided to offer a Distinguished Expert Badge for Pistol Shooting; some eight years before, a Distinguished Expert Badge for Rifle Shooting was offered. The purpose of both of these badges was to improve marksmanship in the U.S. military. It also guaranteed a $2.00 or $3.00 per month pay increase. Not bad, since the base pay was only $15.00 per month.

Bullseye pistol shooting is, and always has been, one-handed shooting, since in combat, and particularly on horseback, there is no guarantee one can use two hands. After mastering shooting with one hand, shooting with two hands is much easier.

During the early 1900s, the course of fire was refined, and since 1931, it is as we know it today. The standard course of fire is as follows:
Slow fire: from 50-yard distance, 10 shots are shot in 10 minutes; or from 25-yard distance, 10 shots are shot in 5 minutes.
Timed fire: from 25-yard distance, two strings of five shots each are fired in 20 seconds.
Rapid fire: from 25-yard distance, two strings of five shots each are fired in 10 seconds.

Bullseye shooting is the strongest platform for all types of pistol shooting because it is the best way to learn the basis of pistol shooting. Shooting in a pistol league is a great way to start and refine pistol shooting skills – join the ISRA Bullseye League, which meets at our shooting range in Bonfield.
