Reflections on IGOLD

by Don Bekeleski

I was never so proud to walk in a march as I was in the one to the Capitol in Springfield on March 11th! For those of you who could have come and didn’t, you missed a very nerve tingling experience. There were over 5000 gun owners walking for freedom and 2nd Amendment rights that day. Of course none of the TV stations in the Chicago area showed the crowd that was there. They don’t want the people of Illinois to see what’s really taking place. Instead they showed the buses.

It was exhilarating for me because the gun owners are waking up and starting to act upon their wishes. If you did not attend, I can’t beg you enough to plan on next year for sure. We had people on the sidewalks cheering us on. We had cars blowing their horns as we passed them, cheering us on.

This move is gaining great momentum. It’s time for every one that believes in the 2nd Amendment to join us next year so that the crowd gets so big we can march around the Capitol building just like Joshua marched around Jericho. If we bring trumpets and blow them, I’ll bet those legislators just may get very nervous wondering if history would repeat itself!

I was a bus captain on one of the buses and I had such a great group. We laughed, we joked, and they were a very determined group. I asked how many were first timers and I would say there were probably 15 new people. I went down the aisle and personally thanked each and everyone of them for joining us. When the trip was over I asked those same people what they thought of the day. Their response was, “Great-lets do it once amonth!” or “I am definitely coming back next year and bringing someone with me.”

I was so pleased to be with this group. It made me think, if all 5000 brought one new person with them next year, we would have 10,000 people next year. Would that be fantastic or what? My question is where were the other gun owners from across the state?

I want each and every one of you to talk to friends, fellow shooters and anyone else for them to plan to be there with us next year. Its one day that you can take to help the fight! Plan on it—take that vacation day—whatever it takes help us to make our attendance tremendous! We also need to talk to people about the upcoming elections in 2010. We need to change Springfield politicians. If the person does not back the 2nd Amendment, then that person has to go in 2010!

It’s still government by the people and if all you people want conceal carry in this state, then we need to work for the politician that’s working for us. They need help at election time—do something to help our kind of people get elected.

Four years ago I would never imagine 5000 people marching on the capitol demanding are gun rights. I have lived to see it happen. Please people of Illinois, I want to live to see us change this state around to be just like the other 48 states that have the basic right of self defense, through conceal carry.

God bless every one of you that came to Springfield on our behalf!!
